Mary J. Walters

Mary J. Walters, 68, of Fredonia died Monday afternoon (Aug. 19, 2019) at Buffalo General Hospital.

She was born May 21, 1951 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Billy and Josephine (Mancuso) Griffith. A lifelong Fredonia resident, Mary was a member of the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club.

She had been employed by the Murphy’s Department Store, Dunkirk Ice Cream Co., AL Tech Specialty Steel Corp., and most recently the Liberty CafÈ in Fredonia.

Mary was most known for her delicious cooking and generous heart. She could almost always be found in the kitchen preparing delicious, memorable meals for her family or teaching her children and grandchildren how to cook. She showed her love through her cooking. Likewise, whenever anyone was in need, she would be there to lend a helping hand. Her curious nature led her to many travel destinations and to pursue several hobbies over the years. She taught us kindness, compassion, courage, perseverance, and “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” Mary will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Mike Walters, whom she married May 1, 1993; four children, Tracey (Jon) Stephens of San Diego, CA, Robb Bates of Fredonia, Jodie (Scott) Korzenski of Dunkirk, and Matt (Amy) Walters of Fredonia; one sister, Frances (Joe) Przybycien of Waterford, PA; and eight grandchildren, Jake, Derrick, Ben, Ellie, Scotty, Haeden, Kanoa, and Maya.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Food Bank of WNY, 91 Holt Street, Buffalo, NY 14206. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
