GOWANDA — Marilyn K. “BAM” age 76 of Rte 438 passed away peacefully Wednesday January 22, 2020 at home surrounded by family.

Born in Gowanda into the Turtle Clan May 4, 1943 the daughter of Herbert and Rosabelle (Pierce) John.

Bam retired from NYNEX in Buffalo where she had worked as a phone operator, she retired after 25 years of service.

Granny (as she was known by many) married Neal J. Bennett in 1989, Neal survives.

Granny enjoyed watching her grandchildren play lacrosse, she never missed a game, she was the GM for the Pinewoods Smoke and the Buffalo/Ft. Erie Braves. She was an avid bingo player and loved games of chance especially the “Ghost Bear” slot machine she played at the casino.

Surviving besides her husband Neal is a daughter Sylvia L. “Beege” Patterson of Gowanda, Hadowas Barnes of Gowanda (who referred to Marilyn as Auntie Bam), grandchildren Courtney John-Jemison, Jacky Snyder, and Herbert E. John III. Marilyn is also survived by 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild along with siblings Marjorie Mohawk, David “Scoff” John of Gowanda as well as several nieces, nephews great and great great.

Besides her parents, Bam was preceded in death by brothers and sisters; Marcia Barnes, Louise John, Gordon W. John and Mary Jane Printup.

Friends may call after 6 pm on Thursday and all day Friday at the residence of Courtney John-Jemison 13223 Rte 438 Gowanda (house is behind Granny’s) where funeral services will be held Saturday Jan. 25 at 10 a.m.

Arrangements are by the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda.
