Marlene E. Bentley

Marlene E. Bentley, 77, of Dunkirk died Saturday afternoon (February 22, 2020) at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk follow-ing a lengthy illness.

She was born November 2, 1942 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Frank and Emily (Bialaszewski) Newman.

A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, Marlene was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1960. She assisted with the family business, Newman Funeral Home, Inc., serving as greeter/door attendant for several years. Marlene also had worked as a cashier at Quality Markets and in the toy department at Ames Department Store.

A parishioner of Sheridan United Methodist Church, she was an avid New York Yankees fan and was active in Dunkirk Babe Ruth baseball.

Survivors include two sons, Donald K. Jr. (Brenda) Bentley and Daniel F. Bentley, both of Dunkirk; three grandchildren, Kyle (fiance Tommy Coughlin) Bentley, Marcus S. Bentley, and Taylor Bentley, all of Fredonia; one brother, Gerald (Barbara) Newman of Dunkirk; her aunt, Elaine Hamernik of Bellevue, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald K. Bentley Sr., who died Sept. 28, 2018; and her brother, Daniel J. Newman, on Aug. 7, 2018.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
