Richard A. Loewer Jr.

Richard A. Loewer, Jr., 67, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Monday April 13, 2020 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.

He was born September 28, 1952 at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska to the late Richard A. Loewer Sr. and Marion E. (Schellenberg).

A son of a decorated career U.S Air Force service member, as a child, Richard lived around the country. Upon his father’s retirement from the military, his family eventually settled in Mayville.

Richard is a graduate of Mayville High School, Jamestown Community College and SUNY Fredonia. Richard retired in 2015 after a 30-year career with the Western New York Developmental Disabilities Services Office (WNY DDSO).

In retirement, Richard worked for Basil Chevrolet in Fredonia as a Shuttle Driver. Well-liked by all at Basil’s, he was well known there as the “Cookie Guy”.

Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a former member of the Mayville Fish and Game Club. He and his wife Joan enjoyed riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He especially loved spending time with his grandsons.

Richard is a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving with the Strategic Air Command during the Vietnam era.

Richard is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Joan M. (Clemens) Loewer; two sons: Richard (Sara Pawlicki) Loewer of Orlando, FL., Patrick (Jenna Siracuse) Loewer of Gainesville, VA; 2 grandsons: Collin and Ryder Loewer; a brother, William Loewer of Jamestown, N.Y., and a sister, Laurie (David) Walker of Frewsburg, N.Y. and several nieces and nephews.
