Alan R. Crowell

SOUTH DAYTON: Alan R. Crowell, 69, of Bartlett Hill Road, South Dayton, passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, at his daughter’s residence in Forestville, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Silver Creek, on Oct. 23, 1950, the son of Marilyn “Mickey” (Valentine) Crowell of South Dayton and the late Richard Crowell.

Alan was a graduate of Forestville Central School, class of 1969. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-73 and was aboard the USS Forrestal. Alan worked for the former Great Lakes Printing in Dunkirk for approximately 20 years and as a technical sales representative for McDermitt Printing in Colorado, retiring in 2009. He was a member and past master of Hanover Lodge 152 F&AM, Forestville and in 1994 was the youngest grand master in New York State and was a past member of the former Frank Acquavia Memorial Post 1344 American Legion, Dunkirk.

Alan loved to write music, sing and play guitar. Many friends and family enjoyed his musical talents through the years. Alan also liked to fish, ride motorcycle, cook and work with wood. He loved a good time, a funny joke and his word puzzles. It was a life well lived and we are grateful to have shared this journey with him.

Survivors include three daughters: Robin Zeman, of Hampton, Va., Tessa Zemgulys of Chicago, Ill., and Kayme (Henry) Gianatasio of Chicago, Ill.; a son, Jeffrey (Moriah) Keddie of Fredonia; and a sister, Linda (Sherman Bailey) Hall, of Fredonia. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Time and place to be announced. The family suggests memorials may be made either to Forestville Fire Department Emergency & Rescue Squad, P.O.
