Thomas J. “Schmatts” Smith Sr.

He was born Nov. 28, 1944 in Lackawanna, N.Y., son of the late Joseph and Jane( Miller) Smith.

On Oct. 17, 1970, he married the former Linda Romandi, who survives.

Mr. Smith owned and operated Tom Smith and Son Garage Doors for over 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and a member of Maple Lodge and Hanover Fish and Game. He was a past member of the North Evans Fire Department.

Besides his loving wife of almost 50 years, he is survived by a son, Thomas (Kathy) Smith Jr. of Perrysburg, N.Y., and a daughter, Samantha Smith (Jeromy) of South Dayton, N.Y., and six grandchildren: Matthew (Sarah) Greenwalt, Austin Smith, Derek and Joey Watkins, Madison and Morgan Johnson; and two great-grandchildren: Ella and Colton. Also surviving are two sister-in-laws: Sherrie (John) Purvis of Florida, and Lisa (Rick) Langenfeld of Hamburg, N.Y.; two nephews: Keith Dash and Jesse (Ashley) Richmond; and nieces: Garnetta Falzone and Nikki (Chad Loshbaugh) Richmond.

He was predeceased by a sister, Eileen (George) Dash.

Friends may call from the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 105 E. Main St., in Gowanda, N.Y., on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Due to Covid 19, masks are required and 33% occupancy is in effect.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020 at 11 a.m., from Versailles Cemetery.
