Charles W. Mount

Charles W. Mount (formerly of Dunkirk) passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 8, 2020, at his home in Crossville, Tenn.

He was born Feb. 24, 1936, in Cherry Creek, N.Y., to Clifford and Violet Mount. Charlie was a gifted athlete earning 13 varsity letters from Pine Valley High School. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.

He was the first elected treasurer of the New York Chapter of the Wild Turkey Federation. He was one of the founding fathers of the Dunkirk/Midget league football and served as the head coach of the Colts for several years. He was also a Little League baseball team manager.

He was a former member of St,. Johns United Church of Christ in Dunkirk and was one of the elders that helped muster up enough votes to build the addition that now provides Adult Daycare.

As a member of the Dunkirk Junior Chamber of Commerce he often played Santa Claus at parties and visited children in the hospital and their homes.

He was a former member of the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, the Lakeside Club and a life time member of the Moniuszko Social Club.

Charlie was a devoted husband caring for his wife Pat during her long battle with breast cancer.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Lincoln) Mount; parents; and sister, Shirley (Mount) Johnson.

Survivors include one brother, Robert Mount of Maryland; three daughters: Cynthia (William) Woldarek and Roxanne (Gerald) Mcquiggan, both of Dunkirk and Shari (Donald Jr,) Salemi of Fredonia. Grandchildren: Christopher, Tara, Chad, Patrick and Danielle. Great-grandchildren: Liam, Luca, Maicelyn, Mackenzie and Betsie Erickson of Crossville, Tenn.

Due to COVID-19 services will be held for family at St. Johns United Church of Christ in Dunkirk on Sept. 26, 2020, at 10 a.m. Masks and social distancing are required. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your local animal shelter.
