Cynthia Josephson Tolman

Cynthia Josephson Tolman, 69, originally of Cassadaga, N.Y., passed away peacefully on May 1, 2020, at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Wash., following a lengthy battle with chronic respiratory disease.

Cynthia (Cindy) was born on Nov. 14, 1950 to Arlene (Waite) Josephson and the late Gordon W. Josephson of Cassadaga, N.Y.

After growing up in Cassadaga, Cindy pursued her childhood desire to be a teacher (like her mother and grandmother) and graduated from the State University of New York College at Buffalo with degrees in Special Education. She taught Special Education for several years while supporting her husband, Monty Tolman, as he completed his dental and periodontal education. They settled in Olympia, Wash., where he established a dental practice and they raised their three sons.

Cindy was a devoted stay-at-home mother who gave her all to her family. Over the years they made many return trips to Cassadaga with joyful family gatherings “up on the hill.”

Her passion was reading and books. With a multitude of titles in her Kindle collection when she passed away, it was a great pleasure she shared with her family.

Cindy is survived by her mother, Arlene (Waite) Josephson of Naples, Fla.; three sons: Micah (Oriole) Tolman and their daughter of Beijing, China, Benjamin Tolman of Austin, Texas, and Joseph Tolman of San Francisco, Calif.; sister Annette (George) Allison of Westford, Mass.; and brother Lynn (Kathy) Josephson and their two sons and six grandchildren, all of Naples, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon W. Josephson, and infant daughter Katherine.

It was Cindy’s longtime desire to return to Cassadaga and her wish to be laid to rest there. A private burial occurred on Aug. 31, 2020, at Cassadaga Cemetery.

“Those we love don’t go away.

They walk beside us every day.

Unseen, unheard, but always near.

Still loved, still missed, and forever dear.” – (author unknown)
