Edward J. Sweda

GREENHURST, N.Y. –Edward J. “Cookie” Sweda, 82, formerly of Gowanda, passed away Saturday evening Nov. 7, 2020, at the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing facility in the Town of Ellery. He was surrounded by family on what would have been his late brother Joseph’s 76th birthday. Joey passed away while serving in the Vietnam War in 1965.

Edward was born Oct. 11, 1938. in Gowanda, the son of Edward and Frances (Cygan) Sweda. He was a machinist with Moog Inc. in East Aurora and retired after being employed with the company for 45 years. Ed was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Gowanda. He enjoyed playing cards with his wife, the former Carol A. Kaye, who survives. He was a dedicated Corvette enthusiast and also collected model trains. Ed was a craft carpenter ,who enjoyed ’50s music and the Buffalo Bills.

Surviving along with Carol is brother, Richard “Rip” Sweda of Gowanda; his sister-in-law, Barbara (Norbert) Schneider of North Port, Fla.; his children: Michael (Shellie) Sweda of Los Angeles, Calif., Jonalyn (Kevin) Cooper of Greene, N.Y., Lynda (Phillip) Walters of Gerry, N.Y., Amanda (Tim) McCoyd of Orlando Fla.; and stepdaughter, Tina (Donald) Gebauer of Arcade, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and five great- grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved brother, Joey.

The family is planning a celebration of life TBD.
