Esther Arroe Lanford

Esther Arroe Lanford passed away at her assisted living facility in Cadillac, Mich. on Nov. 8.

Esther was a long time resident of Fredonia. She was active in the community and university, including her iconic annual book sales for which Hack was required to fortify the front porch to accommodate all the books. Her daughter recalls walking around town with her several years ago where she was greeted warmly by almost everyone she passed.

Esther was born in 1930 in Denmark and came to the United States after marrying Hack Arroe. She had three beautiful daughters known as A, B and C.

Esther loved flowers, and her masters degree in horticulture helped her grow apple trees and the best tomatoes ever tasted by mankind. She enjoyed spending time with her grand dogs and being outdoors, especially on the water where in her later years she would sit for hours looking at the lake. She loved playing games and her fellow bridge players became some of her best friends in the world.

Esther is pre-deceased by her husbands: Hack Arroe and Oscar Lanford. She is survived by her daughters: Anne, Beatrice and Catherine. We lift a toast of aquavit to our dearest mother.
