Susan Hach Murphy

Susan Hach Murphy, 50, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Friday Dec. 4, 2020, at home with her loving family at her side after struggling with cancer.

Susan was born in Rochester, N.Y., on Nov. 2, 1970, to James and Jane (Stover) Hach.

She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in ceramics and Masters of Education degree in counseling, both from Alfred University.

Susan has professional licenses as a counselor, child life yoga and vinyasa yoga instructor. She worked as a school counselor for the Cattaraugus-Little Valley School District, Hornell City School and Norwich School District. Susan was the employee assistance program coordinator at SUNY Fredonia, and a professional artist and yoga instructor.

An active member of the Fredonia First United Methodist Church, Susan enjoyed singing with the Praise Team at the church. She also enjoyed creating jewelry, fine works of wool felt, and pottery. She loved nature, hiking and kayaking. Above all, her favorite activity was being a mother to her three sons.

Susan is survived by: her husband, Jeffrey Murphy; three sons: Ronan, Samuel and Jude, all of Fredonia, N.Y.; two brothers: Charles (Shannon) Hach, their children: Cyrus and Celia, all of Manor, Pa.; Matthew (Joanne) Hach and their children: Emily and Zachary Hach, all of Macedon, N.Y.; and stepmother, Barb Hach of Webster, N.Y.

Susan is predeceased by her parents, James and Jane Hach.

Sue was the ultimate giver. Helping and fostering all people. She lived by the phrase “We rise by lifting others.” She was passionate in her work professionally, as a wife and most importantly as a mother. We would like to thank the whole Fredonia community for their love and support.

A private family ceremony will be on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020. A celebration of life will be held and announced at a later date.

As Susan was a person who valued education, you are welcomed to donate to the Murphy children’s college fund through a go fund me page in her memory. (Fundraiser for Jeff and Susan Murphy by Denise Renckens Szalkowski: Love and Support for Sue Murphy). (gofundme.com)
