Madeline F. “Dolly” Metzger

Madeline F. “Dolly” Metzger, 93, of Silver Creek, N.Y., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at the Autumn View Health Care Facility in Hamburg, N.Y.

She was born on April 24, 1927, in Dunkirk, N.Y., the daughter of the late Stanley and Kathryn (Tylock) Kawski. She married Frederick “Fritz” Metzger on June 25, 1949, at St. Peter & Paul’s Church in Jamestown, N.Y. He preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2005.

Dolly is survived by a son, Ron (Kathy) Metzger of Hamburg, N.Y.; a daughter, Sheila Wilkes of Jamestown, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Kawski and a sister, Florence Widen.

Dolly was a lifelong area resident, who graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1945. After high school she moved to Virginia where she worked in the U.S. Marine Headquarters. Dolly moved back to Jamestown, N.Y., where she worked for Hope’s Windows Inc. in the payroll department. Her true calling was to be a demo hostess for Quality Markets in Dunkirk and Silver Creek, she did this for 17 years retiring in 2005. She also got involved in her community, where she served as an election inspector for the Town of Hanover for 29 years. She belonged to Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC in Silver Creek and assisted the financial secretary of the Knights of Columbus for 41 years.

In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling in a number of mixed doubles leagues with her husband Fritz cooking, crocheting and was a diehard fan of the Bills.

Private services were held. Interment was in the Mt Carmel Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Ave. Silver Creek, NY 14136.

Arrangements were handled by the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave. Silver Creek.
