Richard J. “Rich” Lind

Richard J. “Rich” Lind, Jr., 89 of Sinclairville, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, at Heritage Village R&SN Facility.
Born May 27, 1931, in Jamestown, a son of the late Richard J. Sr. and Mae Edson Lind.
He was a 1949 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School, where he played clarinet in the band, basketball and baseball. He was also a member and past president of the F.F.A. and was active in the 4-H program, showing Guernsey cows at the Chautauqua County Fair and receiving many awards.
Rich was a lifelong farmer and had a herd of Holstein cows, heifers and calves. He never said no to helping a fellow farmer or neighbor in need which included many snowy mornings plowing for neighbors and checking on other family farms after chores.
He attended Park United Methodist Church in earlier years and South Stockton Wayside Chapel in later years. Rich was a former member and served on the board of directors for Agway, former member of the Sinclairville Grange, Dairyman’s Board, Farm Bureau, Board of Farm Credit Association, a director of ASCS, full member of Dairylea and DFA.
Rich and his wife, “Skip” were avid roller skaters and taught their children to skate, they also enjoyed Square Dancing at the Gerry Fire Hall and wintering in Inverness, Fla., with many friends from the Cassadaga Valley area.
Rich enjoyed snowmobiling with his kids in earlier years, drove floats in many parades for Chautauqua County Dairy Princess and Dairymaids, bowling, attending Wednesday auctions in Cherry Creek with his brothers and was happiest driving his John Deere tractor and gave many hay-rides and farm tours. He also cherished riding his Gator with the grandchildren and fishing at the pond.
Husband of 58 years to the late Azaliene “Skip” Carlson Lind, whom he married Nov. 25, 1961, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She died Dec. 1, 2019; father of Karen (Phil) Johnson of Jamestown, David (Kristine) Lind of Sinclairville and Lori (Todd) Carter of Kennedy; grandfather of Mitchell and Baileigh Carter, Britta and Erik Johnson, Alexander, Brodie and the late Zachary Richard Lind; brother of Charles (Judy) of Frewsburg, Wayne (Carolyn) of Jamestown and the late Gordon; brother-in-law of Onnolee Lind of Cassadaga. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are private. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
