Roger R. Bleck

Roger R. Bleck, a resident of Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, passed away on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 at Brooks Memorial Hospital from complications due to COVID-19.

Born in Dunkirk on Oct. 5, 1945, Roger was the son of the late Raymond L. and Clara A. (Kubasik) Bleck. He attended St. Mary’s School and was a graduate of Cardinal Mindszenty High School, Class of ’64.

Following graduation, Roger was employed by Marine Midland Bank when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Most of his duty was stateside; first attending the U.S. Naval Supply School in Newport, R.I,. followed by a position in finance at the Nalval Station in San Diego. His one out-of-country deployment was in DaNang, Vietnam, where he was assigned to the U.S. Naval Station’s finance department to manage the payrolls of hundreds of American service men.

He married Judith A. Krzakala in Sacred Heart Church. Oct. 17, 2020, marked their 50th wedding anniversary.

He retired after working many years for Niagara Mohawk/NRG. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Quality Market and Valu Home Center.

A self-taught wood craftsman, Roger provided his family with useful and decorative pieces which now are memorials to his creativity.

Roger’s survivors include his wife, Judith; his son, Michael R. Bleck of Dunkirk; his daughter, Amanda C. (Michael) Chapel and granddaughters: Kate Elizabeth and Maggie Lynn of Meadville, Pa. Other survivors are his sisters: Jean Rae Bleck of Westfield and Barbara L. (late William) Sobczak of Fredonia. Also: brothers-in-law: Joseph (Cynthia) Krzakala of Dunkirk and Gary (Teena) Krzakala of Orange, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Linda (Joseph) DePasquale of Dunkirk; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private burial will be held for immediate family in Willowbrook Park Cemetery at a later date.
