Thomas L Ziegler

Thomas L Ziegler, 65, of Union, Mo., formerly of Dunkirk, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021.

He was born in Dunkirk on Feb. 17. 1955, the son of Louis and the late Geraldine Ziegler

Tom, also known as “Zig” or “Ziggy” was a 1973 graduate of Dunkirk High School.

After graduation he began work at the former Plymouth Tube Company in Dunkirk.

From there his eagerness to learn and his vast knowledge of the aluminum and extrusions business led him to various positions in Maryland, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and finally in Union, Mo., where he held the title of president of Gateway Extrusions of Union.

His entire family was proud of his work accomplishments and his dedication to his job.

Tom enjoyed to gamble and go to “The Boat” as he would call it with his wife and would enjoy vacations in Las Vegas. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres and the Baltimore Orioles. His true passion was to play golf and was fortunate enough to play at many different courses across the county. His love for the game began when he use to caddy at Shorewood Country Club when he was younger but his proudest moment while golfing was meeting former baseball legend Pete Rose, they struck up an instant friendship and had remained close with him for many years.

Tom was also a member of Murray Hose Co 4 for the last 47 years and while living in Dunkirk he headed up various committees with his Dad and longtime friends.

Besides his father, Thomas is survived by his wife, Janie of Union; his children: Jason (Amy) Ziegler of Dunkirk, Jonathan (Kelly) Ziegler of Silver Creek and Michael Ziegler of Union; grandchildren include: Zack Ziegler of Dunkirk, Kaylee, Kyla and Joseph Ziegler of Silver Creek and Payton Ziegler of Union. Also survived by his sisters: Louann (Walt) Zimmerman and Barbara Ziegler of Fredonia, Deborah (Roy Jesse) Pasierb and Raymond Ziegler of Dunkirk.

Along with his mother, Geraldine, who died Aug. 8, 2015 he was predeceased by his youngest sister, Melissa Ziegler in 1987; along with both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial in Toms name can be made to the Non Hodgkins Lymphoma Society.
