Barbara Ann (Ransom) Krauth

BROCTON — Barbara Ann (Ransom) Krauth passed peacefully on Feb. 5, 2021 at Westfield Memorial Hospital from a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was the daughter of Norman and Edna (Spring-born) Ransom residing in the Village of Brocton her entire life. She would have celebrated her 80th birthday this coming Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s Day which began her life-long infatuation with anything heart shaped. She was a 1959 graduate of Brocton Central School. It was there where she met her husband Charles through her cousin Clifford Brown. Charles lovingly cared for her at home tirelessly this past year. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this coming Feb. 25, 2021. Barbara was very active in the Brocton-Portland community. She participated in many clubs and associations such as the First Baptist Church in Brocton, Ladies Home Bureau, Brocton Bi-Centennial Committee, and was a Girl Scout Assistant Leader. Most recently she was a member of the Garden Club, Birds and Blooms, of Fredonia. Barbara was well known for her love of orchids and African violets. She was an integral member of the Marmeduke Committee to honor the late Brad Anderson with the depiction of the Brad and Marmeduke sculpture on Main Street in Brocton. As a trustee of the Ahira Hall Memorial Library she embraced the need to create the library into a community venue. Education was always a priority for her, and she encouraged her children to work toward their goals and follow their individual dreams.

As a talented baker and self-taught cake decorator, Barbara was well known for creating wedding and birthday cakes for numerous friends and family. Her artistic ability stretched over many mediums and was often displayed in paintings, embroidery, and quilting as well as sewing and designing clothes for antique dolls. As a seamstress, she created all four of her daughters’ wedding trousseau, complete with hand crocheted lace.

She always had a passion for traveling. Her favorite destinations were the Adirondacks Mountains in upstate N.Y. and yearly visits to Florida’s Gulf Coast Captiva Island with her family. Barbara delighted in square dancing with her husband Charles. She lived, laughed, and enjoyed life to the fullest, never allowing her illness to hold her back from the people she loved or activities she enjoyed.
