Carolyn Jane Vicario (Marzullo)

Carolyn Jane Vicario (Marzullo) passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. Carolyn was born in Dunkirk, N.Y., on Aug. 16, 1937 (83 years old) and the daughter of Rose and James (Jim) Marzullo.

She graduated from Dunkirk High School, class of 1955 and from Rochester Business Institute in 1957. She married Joseph Vicario on April 30, 1960, in Dunkirk, N.Y., and they were married over 60 years. In 1982 the family relocated to Southern California. Carolyn enjoyed a long career working in business administration and retired at the age of 61.

Her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family. Carolyn was a devoted wife, loving mother, amazing grandmother, caring friend and generous soul. Everyone who knew her loved her immensely.

She possessed a unique gift of charity and giving to others. It’s difficult to put into words the feeling of love that emanated from her to all those she met. She was passionate about carrying on Italian traditions. She cooked and baked delicious pastas, sauces, pizzelles and cucidati and loved making everyone’s favorites.

Carolyn was a life-long Catholic and member of St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Murrieta, where she served as a greeter for many years.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Vicario, her mother and father. She is survived by her brother James Marzullo, her sister Rachel Estee and her three children: James (Sonia), Tracy (Greg Timmel) and Jack (Janna) Vicario, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a host of loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. There will be no in person or virtual memorial service.

Carolyn has requested cremation and a living memorial that will grow up from a biodegradable urn. She has chosen a hydrangea, which is reminiscent of her childhood home. Hydrangeas have bright flowers which represent the bright nature of her soul and her beauty.

Her living memorial will be adjacent to her husband Joseph’s at the Oregon Coast where they enjoyed time together. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
