Robin Schoener

Robin Schoener, daughter of the late Fred and Jean Schoener of Westfield, N.Y., died in her home in Oak Bluffs, MA Feb. 3 after a long and valiant fight with appendix cancer. She was 67 years old.

Robin traveled extensively and after living in several other countries including Egypt, Belgium and Brazil, settled in Boston where she worked for John Handcock Financial Services.

Robin relocated to Oak Bluffs, on Martha’s Vineyard in 2016 where she was part of a close knit community of loving friends. She joined the Community Choir and the Island Grown Gleaning Initiative. She also enjoyed being a member of the Bend in the Road Book Club.

Robin loved getting to know the Island and with her friends she enjoyed many outings to all the Island events before she became ill.

Robin also loved connecting with people of all ages. Making new friends while shopping at the grocery store or taking a walk on her block was as important as the errand itself. She had a quick and easy humor that kept her and those around her laughing, even when her health was clearly on the decline.

Robin was a lifelong student of languages and spoke five languages fluently. She was talented on many levels including weaving, needle point and singing.

In her last days she was lovingly cared for Susan Nugent of Hospice and her caretaker Lilly Easter.

In addition to her brother, Rick Schoener, and her sister, Melissa (Schoener) Mitchell, niece Katie Mitchell, nephews Zack and Matthew Mitchell, and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, Robin is survived by her close group of friends including Hilda Spann of Westfield, N.Y., Jan Campbell, Margaret Curtain, Maryann Heller, Fran Newton, and Kathi Pogoda,

Robin was laid to rest in the Oak Bluffs cemetery. The family asks that tributes by made by way of donation to the Westfield Community Kitchen 101 E Main St., Westfield NY, 14787.
