Allan W. Higgs

Allan W. Higgs, 92 of Charlotte Center, passed away Sat., April 3, 2021 at UPMC Hamot.

Born Sept. 5, 1928, in Charlotte Center a son of the late Harlow E. and Mabel Cross Higgs.

While recovering from a broken leg he studied and received his GED in 1968.

Allan owned and operated Higgs Lumber and until his death, continued as a consultant ending a career that exceeds 50 years.

He was a member and Lay Pastor of Charlotte Center United Methodist Church, receiving his lay pastor accreditation while blind. He later endured a three hour surgery on his left eye without anesthesia to restore his sight in that eye. Allan was also a member of the Charlotte Center Grange, Civil Defense, was a former baseball coach in both “farm league” and Babe Ruth. He volunteered with Sinclairville 76ers/Meals on Wheels and for over 50 years at the Charlotte Center Cemetery. He enjoyed spending time at the coffee shop with friends.

Allan loved people, life in general and was willing to help anyone and everyone.

Beloved husband of 72 years to Beverly Ann Atwell Higgs who he married Dec. 17, 1949; father of David (Sharon), Gary (Roberta), Jeffrey (Ruth) Higgs all of Sinclairville and Sherry (Tom) Noll of Schenectady; grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 11; brother of Jane Penhollow of Cassadaga. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are private. Burial in Charlotte Center Cemetery.
