Jack Lawrence

Jack Lawrence, 92, of Dunkirk, N.Y., passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, after a brief illness.

He was born in Dunkirk, the son of late John Lawrence and Theodora Barthold.

John attended school in Dunkirk until he joined the Navy during World War II.

He retired as a boring mill operator / journeyman in 1990 from the Ford Stamping Company in Buffalo.

John was the oldest still living member of the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club and First Ward Falcon. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and Chautauqua Country PONY Association. He trained, breed and showed quarter horses taking several horses to the American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio, and World Quarter Horse show in Oklahoma. His other passion was fishing. He spent many days fishing in the local streams and lakes. The last few years John enjoyed sitting by the campfire at his farm with the camping crew.

John is survived by his four children: Theodora (Wayne) Heckathorn of Layfette, Ind., Barbara (George) Mcintryer of Cassadaga, N.Y., John (Karen) Lawrence of Port St Lucie, Fla., and Mark (Dawn) Lawrence of Dunkirk, N.Y.. He was also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren,and great-great-grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews.

John is also survived by his little puppy, Bandit a two year-old Yorkie Who would play catch for hours and later would curl up in his lap to watching westerns on TV.

John was predeceased in death by his wife, Betty Lawrence (1999); and his brother , Sammy Lawrence (1983).

Friends will be received at R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, 56 E Doughty St., Dunkirk, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St Hyacinth Church. The Rev. Michael Parker officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lake Shore Humane Society, 421 E. Chestnut St, Dunkirk, N.Y.
