Michael Jeffery Mahoney

Michael Jeffery Maho-ney of Dunkirk, passed away peacefully on Oct. 4, 2021, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., surrounded by his loving fami-ly.

He was born June 26, 1957, at Brooks Memorial Hospital to Michael and Maureen Mahoney.

He was a lifelong resident of Dunkirk. He graduated from Dunkirk High School class of 1975, where he played on the varsity football team.

Mike had a kind heart and a gentle spirit. He would try to help anyone who needed his assistance.

Mike had a strong work ethic and worked for several employers in the area including Dunkirk Ice Cream, Pucci’s Carpeting, Cliffstar, Niagara Therapeutic, Carriage House, The Observer, Job Corp, and the one he always liked to tell people about was bus driving for Laidlaw Busing Company, which both he and his father did for several years.

He received his associates degree from James-town Community College in 2001, and he could proudly state of all Mike and Maureen Mahoney’s children he had earned a college education first.

He was a proud and active member of the Dunkirk Moose Club, 1st Ward Falcons Club and Fredonia Beaver Club. He faithfully followed the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees. He participated in local pinochle, softball leagues. In his youth he enjoyed spending time on his boat, before he sold it, and always dreamed of buying a new boat. He regularly attended services at St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia and volunteered with the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Diane (Greco) Mahoney; his daughter, Rebecca Mahoney of Newfield, N.Y.; sister, Denise (James) Griffin Jr. of Dunkirk, N.Y.; brother, Patrick (Michele) Mahoney of Franklin, Pa.; brother-in-law, Robert (Su-san) Greco of Henderson-ville, N.C.; sister-in-law, Gail (Art) Phillips of Marysville, Pa., and aunt, Mary Ellen Lynden of Fredonia, N.Y.; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and his furry buddy, Sam-my.

He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Maureen Mahoney; grandparents: Michael (Bridget) Mahoney and Harold (Rose) Lynden,; his uncle ,Richard Lynden; and several other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Big Mike will be missed by all those whose life he touched while he was here. Calling hours will be at McGraw Kowal Funeral Home on Central Avenue in Dunkirk, N.Y., from 2 -4 and 6-8 p.m., on Thursday Oct. 7. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. Followed by a grave side service for family only. The family has re-quested in lieu of flowers.donations can be made to St. Vincent De Paul or Knights of Columbus at St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia
