Florence M. (Sis) McKinnon
After almost 95 years of a life filled with family and friends who cherished her and were thankful for her loving devotion, Florence M. (Sis) McKinnon passed away peacefully at Brooks Hospital, surrounded by her family, after a brief illness.
Lovingly known as “Sis” Florence lived a long life filled with love, strength, laughter, dancing and many beautiful memories. Whether you called her Ma, Beeba, Beebs, Flossy Mac or Sis she was truly adored and loved by so many. She made friends where ever she went, made you laugh and always the life of the party.
Sis was born on Jan. 27, 1927, in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Robert and Isabelle Sullivan. She graduated in 1945 from Riverside High School in Buffalo and married her high school sweetheart the (late) Roy McKinnon Sr., on April 22, 1946. Together they started a family in Buffalo moving to Tonawanda, Grand Island and eventually settling in Fredonia (Laona) in 1963.
She was the loving and devoted mother of Roy (Marla) McKinnon Jr. of Silver Creek, N.Y., Daniel (Susan) McKinnon of Forestville, N.Y., the late Michael (Pamela) McKinnon Sr. of Fredonia, N.Y., and Cindy (late Thomas) Brown of Dunkirk, N.Y. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren: Michael (Jennifer) McKinnon Jr., John (Lauren) O’Connell, Derek (Katie) McKinnon, Lindsey (Ed) Biondo, Kielly (Brian) Dietzen and Matthew (Justine) McKinnon. The treasured great-grandmother of Brody, Gwendolyn, Cooper, Kendyl, Annelise, Kinnsley, Abel, Maxwell and Liam; three nieces: Carlene, Carrie and Shilo Poor of Ipswich, Mass.
She was employed at Twin Fair, Tops and worked with her sons at their restaurants, Alley Cats Cafe and the Getaway in Fredonia. She was a loved and respected greeter/ bouncer at Walmart for 17 years. She truly cherished her Walmart family and enjoyed spending time with them. She reluctantly retired at almost 90 years of age.
She was a lifetime member at the Beaver Club, a past member of the Moose Club and Fredonia Grape Belt Seniors. Most recently she belonged to the Dunkirk Senior Center. For many years she was an active member of the Womens Bowling Association. She was the light of any gathering and loved to play cards, travel and most importantly spend time with her cherished family and friends. An avid animal lover, Sis owned many beloved pets over the years. You could almost always find her dog faithfully by her side.
Her daughter and late son-in-law, felt fortunate to have her live in their home for the last 16 years of her blessed life. We begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.
Florence was predeceased by her parents Robert and Isabelle Sullivan; her husband, Roy E. McKinnon Sr.;, her son Michael J. McKinnon Sr.; son-in-law, Thomas M. Brown; great-grandsons: Dawson J. and Clayton M. McKinnon; her sister ,June A. Poor; brother-in-law, William G. Poor; and nephew, Robert H. Poor.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations can be made to the Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue in Westfield, NY.
