Leroy Allen Wright

Leroy Allen Wright, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Wednesday morning, Nov. 17, 2021, at home surrounded by family, after a two year battle with ALS.

Leroy was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia, N.Y. He was employed by Niagara Mohawk in 1977 and retired from NRG (formerly Niagara Mohawk) in 2011.

Leroy proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 until honorably discharged in 1971 and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for four years after. He and his wife, Sally Jo, spent their retirement traveling in their RV to many places and enjoyed being snowbirds in Florida.

One of Leroy’s greatest passions was his red 1967 Chevelle SS. He enjoyed drag racing, restoring, maintaining, and showing it off. In his spare time, he volunteered at Muscle Car City in Punta Gorda, Fla. He also enjoyed meeting friends at the Chautauqua County Conservation Club, the Beaver Club, the American Legion, Post 59, and gatherings with his clasmates. He was a part of the class of 67 reunion committee and scholarship fund. Leroy was a friend to everyone he met and his smile was infectious.

Leroy is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sally Jo Wright of Fredonia, N.Y. He is also survived by his three loving children: Leigh Anne (Brian) May of Brockway, Pa., Kristi (Jason) Biniker of Monclova, Ohio, and Jason (Alyssa) Wright of Hilliard, Ohio. He absolutely loved his seven grandchildren: Nathan and Gianna May, Andrew, Braden and Jackson Biniker, Tyler and Graham Wright. Also surviving are his brothers: Richard (Gloria) Wright of Warren, Pa., and Roger (Mary) Wright of Fredonia, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Leroy H. Wright and Mary E.Wright of Fredonia, N.Y., Leroy was preceded in death by his grandson, Edward B. May of Brockway, Pa.; and brother, Randy Wright of Westfield, N.Y.

According to the family’s wishes, there will be a viewing on Sunday, Nov. ,21, 2021, from 4-7 p.m., at the FANTAUZZI FUNERAL HOME, 82 E; Main St., Fredonia, N.Y. His funeral service on Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Fredonia, N.Y. with the Rev. Joseph Walter officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass.

Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Sheridan, N.Y.

All arrangements have been entrusted to Michael R. Fantauzzi, owner and director of the FANTAUZZI FUNERAL HOME.
