New Albion — Shirley J. Minnick, 90 , of Salamanca, formerly of New Albion, NY, passed away on November 24, 2021.
She was born July 31, 1931, at home, a daughter the late John H. and Louise (Merow) Tonger.
Shirley was a 1949 graduate of Cattaraugus Central School.
She was a member of the New Albion Free Methodist Church until its closure, the Let’s Travel Club (Secretary) and Cattaraugus Seniors Group. She was also President of the Lower New Albion Cemetery Association. Shirley enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting and crafting-having been awarded many Cattaraugus County Fair ribbons for her talented work.
Shirley is survived by her sons: Henry (Jeanette Pierce) of New Albion, and Richard (Maureen) of Collins, NY; and daughter, Janet of Buffalo, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Krista Rektorik (Chad Evoniuk) of West Seneca, NY; Mara (Daniel) Willibey of Port Clinton, OH; and Matthew Minnick (Sarah Taylor) of Tampa, Fl; and great-grandchildren, Zada, Layla, and Zayn Willibey and Colin Rektorik. Also surviving are her brother, Robert (Penny) Tonger, and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Frank W. Minnick, whom she married on Jan. 14, 1956, and who died on March 7, 1972. She was also predeceased by her brother, Richard, and sister, Eileen Lathrop.
The family will receive friends at the Mentley Funeral Home, 411 Rock City St., Little Valley on Saturday, November 27, from 1-3 p.m., with services immediately following.
Burial will be in the New Albion Cemetery.
