LaVerne P. Gernatt

LaVerne Paul Gernatt, 84, of Selma, N.C., passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 17, 1937, to the late John Leonard Gernatt and Eleanor (Trevett) Gernatt. LaVerne and his late wife, Idell, formerly resided in Forestville, N.Y.

In addition to his parents, LaVerne is preceded in death by his wife, Idell Mae (Bemis) Gernatt; and his four brothers: David Gernatt, Ron Gernatt, Alfred Gernatt and Doug Gernatt.

Survivors include his daughters: Wanda (Gernatt) Mourer and husband, Mike of Selma, N.C., Debra (Gernatt) Annarino and husband, Robert of Gowanda, N.Y., and Colleena (Gernatt) Thompson and husband, Chris of Florida. Four grandchildren: Jennifer (Motto) Johnson, Nicholas Motto, Jason Conklin and Amanda Conklin. Five great-grandchildren: Emmaleigh, Robert (Bobby Verne), Wyatt, Cole and Caroline. Three brothers: Gene Gernatt, Dick Gernatt and John Gernatt; and five sisters: Debbie, Isabelle, Eleanor, Cheryl and Chris; and several other family and friends who he loved.

LaVerne proudly served in the U.S. National Guard. He was greatly known for his love of tractors. Not only could he tear them apart and put them back together, but he would gladly give well needed advice about them either in person or over the phone.

Dad, Grandpa and Papa, you will be dearly missed, but your precious memories will forever remain in our hearts and in the hearts of those who knew you.
