Dr. Robert Barnes, D.O.
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Robert Barnes, D.O., of Alva, Fla., and a lifelong resident of Silver Creek.
Bob was born Dec. 29, 1937, the son of Dr. Edmund and Alice Barnes.
He graduated from Silver Creek Central School, Syracuse University and Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo. For 26 years, he practiced general surgery and family medicine in Silver Creek. In July 1994, Bob opened his first Preventive Medicine & Wellness Clinic in Fredonia, N.Y., specializing in chelation therapy and preventive medicine. He was an incredible physician, caring deeply for his patients and their families. He married the love of his life, Frieda Muhs Barnes, on Aug 30, 1985. Together, they have five daughters: Becky Barnes Shepherd (John) of Ellicotville, N.Y., Kate Barnes Komara (John) of Farmington, N.Y., Nicole Strickland Myers (Steve) of Vero Beach, Fla., Melissa Strickland of Hilliard, Ohio and Karen Barnes Dean (Brenda) of Tonawanda, N.Y. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson, Luca Waters. Beloved grandchildren include Drew, Grace and Mary Bonasera, Alex and Elizabeth Komara, Sarah Myers, Matt and Nick Waters, Desiree Morris and Blake Waller.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; sister, Dorothy; and brother, Edmund.
He is survived by his brother, Dr. James Barnes.
Bob was an active sportsman, playing basketball, golf, tennis, badminton and ping pong. He was active in several community organizations in his hometown including the Chamber of Commerce, First United Church, American Cancer Society, Hospice, Chautauqua County Foundation and the Chautauqua County Republican Club.
Donations in Bob’s honor can be made to the Silver Creek Central School District for a scholarship fund.
