GOWANDA — Geraldine A. Gates, 83 of the Cattaraugus Territory passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo.
Born into the Wolf Clan Jan. 6, 1939, the daughter of Jerry Sr. and Nancy (Burr) Plummer.
Geraldine worked as a social worker for the Seneca Nation of Indians, at the time of her retirement she worked for Community Concerns in Derby .
Geraldine was an active member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Irving .
Survivors include her husband, Richard H. Gates; their children: Donald ”Dondi” Bennett of Wisconsin, Debra Bowman of Angola, Wayne (Denise) Gates of North Collins, Steven Gates of Buffalo, Vaughn (Wanda) Gates of Salamanca, Jamie (Chris) Gates of Gowanda and Wesley (Sandra) Warrior of Perrysburg; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; along with siblings: Jerry “Sonny” (late Katie) Plummer of Randolph, Elizabeth (Lee) Plummer of Perrysburg, Jacklyn (late Donald) Bennett of Irving and Latona Williams of Irving. Several nieces and nephews also survive .
Besides her parents Geraldine was preceded in death by a grandson. Sean Parsons’ and sisters: Patricia (Herman) Jimerson, Nanette “Sue” (Melvin) Gates and Carol (Parker) Jonathan
Friends may call Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St., Gowanda from 10 a.m. to noon, where a funeral service will commence at noon. (masks required) The Rev. Glenn Bloom lll will officiate. Interment in the Seneca Nation Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired may be made to a local charity of ones choice .
