Stephen L. “Steve” Hanks

BROCTON — Stephen L. “Steve” Hanks, 70, of Brocton, N.Y., passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022.

Steve was born June 1, 1951, in Westfield, N.Y., the son of Hayden and Emma Walker Hanks.

He graduated in 1969 from Westfield Academy and Central School and then went on to Oklahoma Farriers College and became a licensed in blacksmithfarrier by trade and had his own business, S L Hanks Blacksmithing for over 10 years.

Steve had forestry and timber management experience which he acquired at Cornell University and was certified in cattle trimming and forestry. He started Hanks Ag and Forestry Services where he marketed good grade lumber to furniture manufacturers and construction companies. He surveyed and marked property lines for timber harvest.

He was a member of the Sons of American Legion Post 327 in Westfield, N.Y.

Steve was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed the company of his friends and family.

He is survived by his brother, Dennis (Jean) Hanks of Portland, N.Y.; his nieces: Tina (Robert) Giannamore of Albion, Pa., and Lia (Nathan) Cookinham of Webster, N.Y.; his beloved six greatnieces and one great-nephew; his brother-in-law, Aaron Singleton of Amesbury, Mass.; a cousin, Chris (Nancy) Hanks of Victor, Colo.; and his canine friend, Tia.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Singleton.

Per Steve’s wishes, all services will be held privately.
