Doris C. Woodbury
Doris Carr Woodbury died on May 20, 2022. Doris was born in Silver Creek, N.Y., on Oct. 16, 1923. She was the daughter of Esther Richter Carr and Glenn Carr.
She was educated in the Fredonia Schools and a graduate of Fredonia State in 1945.
Doris was married to W. Jack Woodbury for 68 years. He predeceased her Feb. 25, 2014.
She taught school in Rochester, Troy, and Fredonia Central where she retired in 1984. Doris was the first teach-er and director of the Fredonia Baptist Church Nursery School and was a member of the church for over 80 years.
She was active in Brownies and Cub Scouts when her children were young.
Doris is survived by two daughters: Wendy (Joe) Straight and Vicky Wood-bury (Tim Smolinski); and by two sons: Randy Wood-bury and Tim Woodbury. Also, she is survived by three granddaughters: Lilli Woodbury, Bernie Wood-bury and Ava Smolinski.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and an infant son, Ronald; and her sister, Flossie Lesch.
By her request, her body has been donated to the gift program at the University of Buffalo. A private memorial service will be held at a later date, when she will be buried alongside her beloved husband, Jack, in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
On her 90th birthday, she walked from Barker Commons to Dunkirk Harbor, threw a party for her extended family, and walked back to Fredonia.
Her favorite verse is I Corinthians 13. “Faith, hope, love abide, these three but the greatest of these is love.”
