Samuel E. ‘‘Sam’’ Restivo

Samuel E. ‘‘Sam’’ Restivo

Samuel E. ”Sam” Restivo, 76, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away Sunday May 15, 2022, at Brooks Memorial Hospital, as a result of a tractor/truck accident.

Sam was born May 8th, 1946, in Silver Creek, N.Y., the son of the late Jacob and Angeline Restivo.

Sam was a 1964 graduate of Silver Creek High School and 1968 graduate of Fredonia State College, where he also received his masters degree. He loved history and taught at Falconer High School for 35 years until his retirement in 2003.

Sam was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, deer hunting, and pheasant hunting with his dog, Rio. He always had a wonderful time fishing for trout with his friend, Kevin. There were many memories and stories made with his friends over the years while hosting the annual deer camp at the barn. Sam’s real love was being outside in his woods at his property in Silver Creek.

After retirement from teaching Sam ran a fire-wood business, where he worked hard thinning the forest, splitting the wood, and “neatly” stacking hundreds of cords of wood. He enjoyed visiting with his many wood customers. He loved when his grandson, Ryan would come over to help on the farm and spend the night, eating venison and talking.

Sam was secretary and lifetime member of the Chautauqua County Bird Dog Association. He was a life time member of the Celoron Skeet Club, a member of the Dayton Farmers Sportsmen’s Preserve, and a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club.

He was a wonderful loving father who recently celebrated his 76th birthday with both of his children, daughter–in-law, and his wife. His daughter Tina was glad to be home for the first time in almost two years. She had a great time and is so glad she got to see him. Sam and his son, Michael worked on many projects together over the years, where he showed Michael everything he knew about home maintenance. Every fall he would take Nancy on an all day ride so she could take pictures of what she called “the beauty of nature”, then would end up in Olean to eat at the Beef and Barrel.

Sam helped with his children’s education and they are successful today because of him. He provided for his family throughout the years and was very loved. Sam has many friends and will be missed by all.

Sam is survived by the love of his life, Nancy, his wife of almost 53 years; two children: Michael (Stephanie) Restivo of Jamestown and Tina Restivo of Greer, S.C.; his grandson, Ryan Restivo of Jamestown, who was one of his greatest joys; two sisters: Jacalyn (Ron) Peck of Spartanburg, S.C., and Virginia Karmin of Pittsford, N.Y.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday May 28, with visitation from 10 a.m.- noon, and a short memorial service at noon, at the Peterson Funeral Home in Frewsburg, NY.

Memorial donations can be made to the Chautauqua County Bird Dog Association. P.O. Box 198, Falconer, NY 14733, or to a charity of your choice.
