Woodson Wayne Knott

Wayne was born on July 18, 1936, in Locust Grove, Okla., the son of the late Woodson and Evelyn Grubb Knott.

Wayne went into the U.S. Air Force when he was 17 years old and his parents had to sign for him. He earned his GED while in the service. He served during the Korean Conflict in the MASH Unit.

Wayne had worked at UPS as a manager, transportation manager for SM Flickengers and transportation director at Quality Markets.

He enjoyed coaching baseball throughout the years. He coached Farm League, Little League and Babe Ruth in Gerry, N.Y. Wayne liked to bowl and bowled in a men’s league and a couple’s league. He enjoyed traveling to Oklahoma each year to visit his family. He and his wife, Sandra enjoyed raising their granddaughter.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra Wierzba Knott, whom he married on April 3, 1967 in Bemus Point, N.Y.; two sons: Scott Knott of McCallen, Texas and Darren Knott of Jamestown, N.Y.; two granddaughters: Joey Knott and Gia Knott.

In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his brother: GJ Knott; and three sisters: Agnes Perdue, Helen Harrison and Gwen Talley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department, 4490 Gerry Levant Road, Gerry, NY 14790.

No services will be held per Wayne’s wishes.
