GOWANDA — Dale W. Hartlieb, 77, of Gowanda passed away Tuesday morning June 7, 2022, at home with his wife Sharon at his side.
Born in Dunkirk, NY the son of Clarence and Jeanette (White ) Hartlieb October 18, 1944.
Dale, an Eagle Scout, graduated from Cassadaga Valley High School class of 1962. Dale received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Fredonia State College in 1967. He went on to receive his Masters in Physics from Fredonia in 1971. While in college Dale was a remote engineer for WDOT (the college radio station), he held a General Class Ham Radio License and was instrumental with emergency communications during the 1972 flood (Agnes) in Olean.
Dale taught Physics for the Gowanda High School for 35 years before his retirement. He was the Technical Director for many of the drama productions and was the Advisor for GETC (Gowanda Educational Television Channel). Dale participated in the schools Foreign Exchange Teaching Program; he taught Physics in Australia for a school year (1978) with his family in tow.
Survivors include his wife; Sharon (Kenfield) Harlieb whom he married in Franklinville, August 24, 1968; a son, Lee Hartlieb of Buffalo, a daughter Ann Sumner of Winston Salem, N.C. Dale is also survived by a grandson Jordan Kota and granddaughter Payton Kota, along with nieces, nephews and many students who will miss his compassionate and sometimes comedic approach to teaching.
As per Dale’s request, there will be no prior visitation or service.
