Edmund A. Aniszewski

A lifelong resident of the city, Edmund was a graduate of St Hyacinth’s academy as well as The Industrial High School, where he was the starting center on the men’s basketball team.

Shortly after graduation, Edmund joined the US postal service working as a letter carrier. His career was cut short by World War II as he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a radar technician both on an aircraft carrier and on a destroyer, affectionately referred to as a “Tin Can.” After the war ended he resumed his career at the post office, only to be called back to again serve his country during the Korean Conflict. Ed was proud of his service and in particular being referred to as a “Tin Can Sailor.”

Once the Korean Conflict ended, Ed returned to the post office where he worked for 40 years retiring in 1984. Ed was known for his great personality, serving the “Dutch hill” and Dunkirk business district for that time period, known as “Eddie the mailman”.

On Sept. 9, 1950, at Sacred Heart Church in Dunkirk, Ed married his dream girl, Marie Brown and they raised five children in Dunkirk. They loved to travel and went on many island vacations with their friends and family vacations by car, visiting most of the continental United States.

Ed was a member of St Elizabeth Ann Seaton church, and used his faith to promote family and family values.

Edmund was also an avid hunter and fisherman, who took advantage of the natural beauty of the WNY area, continuing to fish with his son’s and grandson’s well into his 90s.

Edmund held lifetime memberships in The First Ward Falcon Club, The Dunkirk Elks the American Legion and The Dunkirk Conservation club.

Surviving are his children: Pam (Les Sikorski), Jill Vinciguerra, Rae (Richard Jankowski), Craig Aniszewski and Edmund (Stephanie) Aniszewski II. Also surviving are grandchildren: Ryan (Colleen) Sikorski. Jana (Donald) Ashworth, Jacob (Megan) Jankowski, Jordan Jankowski, Jennifer (Joe) Belovarac, Julie Vinciguerra, Parker and Andrew Aniszewski and Edalee Aniszewski. In addition Edmund was great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren: Kylie, Joshua, Paige Sikorski, Ethan and Brynn Ashworth, and Edward Meadows. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Edmund was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Marie P. (Brown) Aniszewski, who died in 2016; daughter-in-law, Lulu Aniszewski; son-in-law, Michael Vinciguerra; and granddaughter, Jacquelyn Vinciguerra. Also his parents, Leon and Camille Bekeleski; sisters: Helen (Walter) Domanowski, Stella (Ben) Zolnoske, Wanda (Al) Naperalski, Sophie (Eugene) Grabiaz’ and brother, Richard (Maxine)Anson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Thursday morning a 10 oclock in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4-7 at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined. Entombment will be in the Pieta Mausoleum of St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Ed is once again reunited in heaven with his loving wife Marie and those who have gone before him.
