Glenn L. Akam Sr.

Glenn Lee Akam Sr. of Dunkirk, N.Y. Born March, 29, 1942, in Corry, Pa., oldest child of Rev. Cecil and Dorothy (Gauffreau) Akam, was born to Eternal Life, Sunday June 12, 2022, age 80 years.

Glenn was a 1960 graduate of Mayville Central School and attended Jamestown Community College and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). Well-known as a career pilot and certified flight instructor, Glenn had flown for business owners, including Eastern Airlines (First Officer on the B-727) and Evergreen Airlines. He was also engaged in flying or instructing in over 30 different types of airplanes and worked as a private investigator for over 40 years.

Glenn was a longtime member of the AOPA (Aircraft and Owners Pilot Association), the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), and a close friend and “adopted” member of the Dunkirk Airport Nalbone family.

He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and attended Dunkirk First Baptist Church, a church his father had pastored from 1950-57.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Robert and Paul Akam; and his first son, Glenn Lee Akam Jr.

He is survived by another son, Christopher (Lainee) Siegler; two grandchildren: Landon (Elinor) and Avery Siegler; a great-grandson, Christopher Ray Siegler; his brother, David Akam; two nieces: Aimee and Alana Akam; and a sister-in-law, Kay Akam, wife of the late Robert Akam.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 8 at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Dunkirk, 876 Central Avenue.
