Martin J. Korbar “Marty”

GOWANDA, N.Y. Martin J. Korbar, 64, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, July 10,2022, surrounded by family.

Marty was born in Gowanda Nov. 17, 1957, the son of the late Ralph “Shorty” and Anna Mae (Ball) Korbar. (Shorty passed away Nov. 23, 1997, and Anna Mae passed July 15,2015).

Survivors include his wife, Gail L, (Springer) Korbar, they were married in South Dayton June 20, 1987. Also surviving are their daughters: Sarah M. (Phillip) Mason of Gowanda and Kayla C. (Christopher) Bierbower of Lewis Run, Pa.: grandchildren; Jaxon, Jaelyn, Braxley and Vanden, a brother Michael (Wendy Brown) Korbar of Collins; and a sister Marcia Korbar of Tampa, Fla. Marty is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephew as well as many cousins, friends and of course “Buddy” his Jack Russell dog.

Marty retired after nearly 30 years of state service , at the time of his retirement he worked for The NYS Dept. of Corrections, prior to corrections he worked at the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center working in the forensic department. Marty also worked with Tom at B&C Pressure Washing of Gowanda and was ‘ Employee of the Year” for several consecutive years.

Marty’s humor never went un noticed, he enjoyed family time especially with his grandchildren. Gail and Marty would travel to Florida, where they would camp and spend winters, He enjoyed the traveling horseshoe league he was on , was a talented woodworker, enjoyed carpentry and rides on his Harley Davidson motorcycle him and Gail would take.

Memberships include the Slovenian Club, James Cruden VFW Post 5007, American Legion Post 409 and the Gowanda Moose 1382, all of Gowanda. Marty was also a member of the AMVETS of Silver Creek.

A celebration of life Service for Marty will take place Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. from the Gowanda Free Methodist Church 149 West Main St., Gowanda (please assemble at church), burial to take place at a later date privately.
