DeLoris “Dee” Herrington

Born in Delevan, N.Y., Nov. 8, 1928, the daughter of James and Pearl ( Waite) Matteson.

Dee retired from the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center, where she had worked for more than 30 years.

Survivors include David Draegert, with whom she shared her life and love with for the past 30 plus years . Dee is also survived by her children: Sandra K. North of Gowanda, Sharon Ron) McNeill of Glen Carbon, Ill., John “Jack” Herrington of Springville, Joanne L. ( Mike) Gassman of Collins, and Susanne Herrington of Collins grandchildren; Shawn North, Jennifer Proctor, Jamie Sheldon, Britton McNeill, Evan McNeill and Alysha Gassman. Great grandmother to Kallie Proctor, Emilyn Sheldon, Ethan Sheldon and Eliza Sheldon. Dee is also survived by brothers and sisters: Viola Robertson of Dayton, Ohio, James (Eileen) Matteson of Cleveland, Ohio, Irma Murray of Angola, Lucius (Sandy) Matteson of Fredonia, Linda Mault of Rochester and Dana ” Skip” (Benji) Matteson of Brockport. Several nieces and nephews also survive .

Dee was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxillary Gowanda. She had a love for animals and she always shared her home with either a dog or cat or both. She was a loyal and consistent benefactor to the SPCA.

Besides her parents , Dee was preceded in death by two daughters: Deborah Lynn Herrington (1957) and Lisa Marie Herrington (1967); her former husband, Jack Herrington (2001); a brother, Lloyd Matteson; and a sister, Bonnie Matteson.

Friends may call Wednesday Aug. 24, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. from the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St . Gowanda. A Family burial will take place Thursday Aug. 25, 2022 at 11 a.m. from the Collins Center Cemetery (if attending please assemble at cemetery)
