Ralph G. Burke

On Tuesday, Aug. 2, Ralph G. Burke passed away following an extended illness.

He was born on April 13, 1934, in Dunkirk, N.Y., to Florence (Kokocinski) and Dr. Ralph Bartkowiak, DDS.

Ralph graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1951. He proudly served his country as a Marine in the Korean War. He then pursued his education from St. Bonaventure University where he graduated with a bachelors degree in history and education. He married Carolyn P. Alt in 1957 and had three children: Kathy (Bud) Carpenter, Mark (Lyn) Burke and Pam (David) Farrell.

Ralph held various work positions throughout his lifetime. He had a passion for music, reading and writing and was known to submit many letters to the Observer’s editorial section.

Ralph was also known to be an avid fisherman and enjoyed his time on Lake Erie. His wit and intelligence will be missed.

Ralph is survived by his wife; three children; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Roberta Gammon and his brother, Andrew Bartkowiak; and nieces and nephews. Our family remains grateful to his care-givers including the care of Mary Gibbon.

No services are planned at this time.
