Robert ‘‘Bob’’ T. Ritchie
Robert ”Bob” T. Ritchie of Cumming, Ga., died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, at the age of 92, after a prolonged illness.
Bob was born in Elmira, N,Y, on June 20, 1930, to the late Elizabeth (Husch) and Vance Ritchie.
Bob was a graduate of Schenley High School in Pittsburg, Pa., and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army Service Battery 107th Field Artillery Regiment 28th Infantry Division from 1947-51 during the Korean War, stationed at Camp Atterbury Ind. during his enlistment.
Bob’s hero in life was his older brother, Vance (Jack) Ritchie who enlisted in the Army in early 1944 and killed in action in France during World War II.
Bob went on to raise his family and spent the next 45 years in Dunkirk, N.Y. Bob worked for various industries in the upstate New York area prior to purchasing and operating Pete’s News, a successful news store and coffee shop, in Dunkirk, N.Y., until retirement.
Bob is survived by his wife of 68 years, Christina (Spence) Ritchie, whom he married June 5, 1954, in Dunkirk, N.Y.; and daughter, Barbara R. (Peter) Smith of Amelia Island, Fla.
Bob was a member of the Fredonia Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church of Cumming, Ga.
A private memorial service will be held in New York at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please support your prefered veterans organization.
