George W. Prunty

George W. Prunty, 86, of W. 10th Street, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away on Friday, Oct/28, 2022 at UPMC Chautauqua, Jamestown, N.Y., surrounded by his loving family.

George was born on October 9, 1936, in Bedford, Va., the son of the late Claude S. and Ottie Mary Murphy Prunty.

George graduated from Northside High in Grenta, Va. He worked as a mechanic and ran Midas Muffler for 11 years. He worked as an engineer at Valeo (Titan X) for many years and was a valued employee.

George was an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he served as the chairman of the Deacon Board and president of the choir. He loved to sing and in his younger years he sang gospel music in a quartet with his father and his brothers. George enjoyed farming and martial arts in his younger years.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

George is survived by his wife of 67 years, Quinelle V. “Taylor” Prunty, whom he married on April 12, 1955, in Chatham, Va.; his eight children: Sandra Faye Monroe-Davis (Leonard Davis) of Suffolk, Va., Jerry B. Prunty (Mary) of Huntsville, Ala., Eunice Karen Thompson of Jamestown, N.Y., Larry W. Prunty of Jamestown, N.Y., Janice M. (Guy) Cooper of Temple Hills, Md., George Darryl Prunty of Waldorf, Md., Cheryl L. (Kevin) Germany of Riverdale, Ga., and Nancy L. Gregory of Jamestown, N.Y.; two sisters: Greta Lipford of Collands, Va., and Virginia Baker of Axton, Va.; 24 grandchildren and a host of greatgrandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, Inc., 316 E. Fifth St., Jamestown, N.Y., on Friday, Nov. 4 from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 53 23rd St., Jamestown, N.Y. at 11a.m., the Rev. LeRoy Walker will officiate, pastor of the church.

Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Lakewood, N.Y.
