Albert William Baker Jr.

Albert William Baker Jr., 95, of 1490 Buffalo Street, Silver Creek passed away peacefully on February 14, at Buffalo General Hospital following a brief illness.

Al was born on December 2, 1927, the son of Albert and Dorothy Baker.

Al was married to the love of his life, the former Betty Spies for 73 years and had 2 sons, Donald (Trish) Baker of Lakewood, Colorado and Al (Nancy) Baker lll of Silver Creek NY.

Al was a lifelong resident of Silver Creek NY, receiving his education in Silver Creek through High School and received an Associates Degree from Erie Community College. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Colorado for 2 years during World War ll. Al worked as a carpenter for Cowper Construction and many other companies retiring in 1987. One of his many accomplishments was building his own home along with his wife Betty. Al loved to hunt and fish and he passed that love on to his two boys. He traveled to Colorado to hunt with his son Don and his grandson and he spent many hours hunting on Al’s land and fishing in Al’s pond.

Al and Betty enjoyed bowling together and Al was an avid coin and stamp collector. After retirement Al and Betty camped with their many camping buddies and became “snow birds” living for the winters in Fruitland Park, Florida where they made many close friends. Al also enjoyed playing cards, trap shooting, following the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He and Betty spent many years traveling.

Al treasured his grandchildren and great grand children who he was extremely proud of; Todd Baker and his son Noah and daughter Macy of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Scott and Jennifer Baker and their daughters, Aubrey and Ayla of Lakewood Colorado, Jennifer and Cory Hollingshead and their daughters Skylar and Peyton, of Littleton, Colorado, Robert Lawrie Jr., of Dunkirk, NY, Jessie Lawrie and her daughter Del Rose of Silver Creek, NY and Alysha Baker of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Al was a kind, gentle, intelligent man who received the love and respect of everyone who knew him and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His final selfless act among many throughout his life was donating his body to the University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program so a celebration of Al’s life will take place at a future date. Donations can be made in Al’s memory to The American Heart Association.
