Arnold R. Tranquist

PORTLAND – Arnold R. Tranquist, 94, of Portland, NY passed away peacefully Sunday evening January 29, 2023, in the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Skilled Nursing facility following a brief illness.

Arnold was born October 03,1928 in Brocton N.Y. the son of Herbert and Alice (Ellison) Tranquist.

He attended Upsala College for two years earning his Associate degree and was employed by Welch’s. Arnold proudly served his country for two years with the US Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952 and was honorably discharged. Following his return home, he married his Connecticut sweetheart Mary Hauser.

He had worked at Kaman Aerospace as an x-ray technician.

Arnold enjoyed golfing, gardening, bowling, and traveling. He was a faithful parishioner all his life, recently attending Portland Congregational Church. Arnold was a charter member of Cheshire Lutheran Church and Tri-Church Parish of Brocton N.Y.

He was a member of the JW Dill Post 484 American Legion of Brocton, NY.

In addition to his parents and his first wife Mary, he was preceded in death by his second wife Leona (Woleben) Ryan who he married in 1985, and his daughter Christine.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his three children, Arnold Jr, Eric, Catherine and eight beloved grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are being cared for and provided by the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Avenue, Brocton, NY 14716.

Private burial will be in Portland Evergreen Cemetery, Portland, NY.
