John J. Zanghi

BROCTON – John J. Zanghi, 95, of Brocton, NY died Saturday morning Jan. 28, 2023, at

Heritage Green Health Care Center with the love of his life Arlene by his side.

John was born in Angola, NY on Feb. 1, 1927 the son of the late Joseph L. Zanghi and Mary(Nicosia) Zanghi.

Mr. Zanghi previously resided at 88 Central Avenue in Brocton, NY.

John went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the

USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, in which he received the metal of Victory and the American Theatermetal. He retired from the New York Central Railroad, Penn Central Railroad and the Conrail Railroad serving 39 ¢ years as a signal maintainer. John was a member of the American Legion Post 434 of Brocton, member of the brotherhood of railroad signalman, and a member of St. Dominic RC Church (the former St. Patrick church) of Brocton, NY. John was an avid fan of the New York Yankee baseball team, Duke basketball and the Oakland Raiders football teams.

John and his beloved wife Arlene did everything together and you may have found them at Bingo or the Casino, they loved to socialize with family and friends at the old Brocton Diner. They enjoyed attending sporting events that their grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in. John loved to work in his garden and he and his wife enjoyed taking rides in their car together.

Survivors include his loving wife of 72 years, Arlene (Stout) Zanghi, whom he. married on May 20th, 1950, their son Michael Zanghi, two daughters; Debra (Daniel) Schrantz, Karen Morse (John Garverick), cherished grandchildren; Denise (John) Berry, Brian Zanghi, Dale Schrantz, Krista (Howard) Gutzman, and Matthew (Emily) Morse, great grandchildren; Kyle Schrantz, Jeydin Schrantz, Tanner Schrantz, Mikala Zanghi, Aiden Zanghi, Georgia Gutzman, and Hayden Gutzman along with many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two sisters Frances (Frank) Grabowski, Lucy (Charles) Didio, five brothers Anthony (Josephine) Zanghi, Joseph (Mary) Zanghi, Angelo (Patrica) Zanghi, Samuel (Concetta) Zanghi, Russell (Joyce) Zanghi and two infant twins Vincent and Theresa Zanghi.

The Heritage Green staff and Hospice of Chautauqua County provided much loving care and companionship during his journey with Dementia. John certainly kept the staff on their toes, and he had a special bond with them.

Funeral services are being cared for and provided by the Morse Funeral Home of Brocton, NY.
