Diana Whitmore Newton Long
Diana Whitmore Newton Long
Diana Whitmore Newton Long, but more affectionately known by everyone as Nana or Mom, passed away at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, on March 15, 2023, at the age of 69. She was born to a tumultuous household on October 13, 1953. The strength she gained from the trials endured in her younger years, led her to be the strong but kind woman she became throughout life.
She spent her adult years as mostly a homemaker, a crafter, a gardener, and a school bus driver, but she loved taking care of children. She will be remembered most as a mother to her daughters, and her step children whom she treated as her very own, and helped to raise them through their formidable years. Also as Nana to her grandchildren, and the children of so many friends and neighbors who would come by and spend time with her. Nana loved her animals as well, and there was always quite the eclectic menagerie around the various homes, from dogs and cats, to guinea pigs, rabbits, birds, horses, and even a pet skunk at one time. She loved spending time outdoors with nature, which brought her peace.
Diane is survived by so many who loved her; Her daughters Danielle (David Maines), HeatherMontgomery (Jacob), and step children Richard Newton (Colleen), Matthew Newton, and Holly Newton; Her grandchildren, Haylie and Jessica Maines, Isaiah and Hope Montgomery, Amy Wong (Andrew), Emma and Joseph Newton; and her former husband who remained a very close friend, companion and confidant for 40 years, Douglas Newton. She is also survived by a sister, Kathy Whitmore, and a Brother, Jim Long. The list of cousins is sadly way too long to list here, but they are surely not forgotten.
Diana was predeceased by her infant grandson Colton Maines, whom she is in no doubt happy to finally hold in her arms, a brother Victor Whitmore, adopte father, Herbert Horey.
At Nana’s request, there will be no service or calling hours, but at some time when the weather is warm, there will be a celebration in her honor. In lieu of flowers that will wilt and die, she would ask you to plant some in your own garden and remember her on a sunny day while they are blooming.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc.
