Richard W. Brown

DUNKIRK-Richard W. Brown, 80, of Dunkirk, formerly of South Dayton, died Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, following a short illness.

He was born in Gowanda on January 27, 1943, the son of the late Clinton and Doris (Parsell) Brown.

Richard was a graduate of Pine Valley Central School, Class of 1960 and a graduate of Jamestown Business College in 1963. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, serving two years at Selfridge Air Force Base in Detroit, MI and one year in Thailand.

He worked as an AI Technician for the former Eastern AI Co-op from 1969-1996. Richard also at one time worked for Cattaraugus County Dept of Social Services from 1967-1969, was a truck driver for J.B. Hunt from 1996-2004, Bostwick- Braun from 2004-2007, doing hardware delivery in the Finger Lakes, and then part-time for the former Norm Hills Trucking from 2007-2009.

He was a member of the Pine Valley Central School Board for 13 years and a charter member of the Cherry Creek VFW Memorial Post 2522. Richard enjoyed XM Radio, Willies Roadhouse, 50’s & 60’s music, gardening, birds and observing nature- deer, turkeys, eagles and especially owls.

He would like to give a special thanks to his neighbors Jen and Tom, Mike and Holly Ann and Joe and also to Dr. Jamal and his staff at the VA and the ICU staff at Brooks Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Ellis of Jamestown, a son Dan (Trudy) Brown, of Rochester; three step daughters, Lisa (Kevin) Valentine; Colleen (Tim) Brunswick; Jennifer (Rick) Miller, all of Fredonia; and a brother, Doug (Dorothy) Brown. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Jillian (Shaun) Ryan, Kaleigh (Kobe DeJesus) Brunswick, McKenna Miller, Mason Miller, Alicia (Ryan) Singer, Amanda Valentine, Brendan Brown, Evan Brown, great grandson Deacan Ryan, and his beloved dog, “Willow.”

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Linda A. “Lynn” (DeGraw) Brown, whom he married on March 30, 1984 and who died May 24, 2021 and a brother Dennis Brown.

Services are private and at the convenience of family. Interment will be in Villenova Cemetery, Town of Villenova. The family suggests memorials may be made to Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue, 7540 North Gale Street, Westfield, NY 14787.
