Arthur F. “Skip” Holzerland

Arthur F. “Skip” Holzerland, 73, of Dunkirk passed away Sunday morning May 21, 2023.

Skip was born July 13, 1949 in Buffalo, NY, the fourth son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Monaghan) Holzerland and was raised in the Town of Tonawanda.

He was a 50-year resident of Dunkirk/Fredonia following his marriage to Patsy Miller. After graduating from Kenmore East High School in Tonawanda, NY he enlisted in the United States Navy where he was a signalman on the USS Truckee. There, he served our country for four years and two additional years in the United States Reserves.

He worked at the M&T Bank in Dunkirk/Fredonia for 46 years as a Universal Banker. In addition, he volunteered for the Red Cross, worked at Sidey’s in Dunkirk and JC Penney’s for 20 years, was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, served as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Joseph’s Church in Fredonia, enjoyed playing cards and visiting Ted’s Hot Dogs in Tonawanda for his favorite hotdog.

Survivors include his spouse of 51 years, Patsy (Miller) Holzerland; son Paul Holzerland (Christine), son Eric Holzerland, and granddaughter Anna Rae Holzerland. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Zimmerman, brother Gary (Mary) Holzerland, sister-in-law Linda (Keith) Francis, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers John (Marie), Richard (Barbara) and Robert (Carol).

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass which will be celebrated Saturday, June 3, at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church. There will be no prior visitation. Full military honors will be accorded by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, 786 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, NY 14209 or Western New York Heart Association, 25 Hazelwood Dr., Buffalo, NY 14228.
