Lillian B. Whalen passed away at home surrounded by family early Tuesday morning shortly after her 92nd birthday.
Born in Lackawanna May 5, 1931 the daughter of Peter and Theresa ( Kosina)Birach. Lillian was a Registered Nurse and retired from the former JN Adam Developmental Center in Perrysburg . Her state employment spanned 42 years.
Lillian was a member of St. Steven Seberian Orthodox Church in Lackawanna, she was a 60 plus year member of the Legion Post 409 Ladies Auxiliary of Gowanda, she also was a long standing member of the Perrysburg Conservation Club and the Slovenian club of Gowanda.
Survivor include her grandson with whom she lived with Michael Bondzich; two daughters Diane Strohauer of Gowanda and Julie Bondzich of Brockton. Lillian is also survived by grandchildren Angela, Charlene, Peter, Lillian and Catherine along with her siblings Anna( late Guy) Crites of Lancaster, Mary ( late Ligouri) Lynch of Gowanda, Nadia (Louis) Sebastian of Lancaster and George (Roberta) Birach of Blasdell. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her parents Lillian was preceded in death by two husbands ; Radovan Bondzich and John Whalen.
As per Lillian’s wishes a graveside service will take place in July at the Park Lawn Cemetery in Wesley.
Arrangements are by the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda .
If desired, memorials may be made to a local charity of ones choice.
