Robert W. “Bob” Strek

Robert W. “Bob” Strek, 86, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Tuesday April 25, 2023 at the Chautauqua Nursing & Rehab Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 4, 1936 to Walter and Lottie Strek in Lackawanna, NY. Bob joined the United States Army in the 1950’s. As a U.S. Army Veteran he was very proud of being a paratrooper, serving in the 11th Airborne Division. Bob returned to this area and made his home in Fredonia. He was employed at Allegheny Ludlum and later retired from Special Metals Corp. in Dunkirk. Bob was very talented at most everything. He completely remodeled his home and added a large addition years later. He could fix almost anything. Bob was also a very generous man with a big heart. If anyone needed help, he was always there for them. Bob was always looking for a project. He enjoyed working in his workshop and made beautiful jewelry boxes and many other items. Bob enjoyed sitting outside and relaxing in the summer. He also loved sharing memories of his life. He will be sadly missed each and every day.

Bob is survived by: his wife, Darlene and daughters: Rachel Strek of Frewsburg, Valerie Strek of Fredonia and Amber Strek of Florida; his sister, Sylvia Bousquet of MA; half-brother, Joseph Hochstine, of Dunkirk, and half-sisters: Nancy Velzy, of Dunkirk and Mary Nichols of Brocton.

Besides his parents, Bob is predeceased by: a sister, Celia Quinn of VA.,

a brother, Walter Strek, of Dunkirk, and half-brothers: Henry Hochstine, of Dunkirk and Richard Hochstine.

A private burial service was held Friday April 28, 2023 at Forest Hill Cemetery, where full military honors were accorded by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council.
