James G. Dillon

James G. Dillon

James G. Dillon, 86, of Fredonia, NY, passed away unexpectedly Friday June 16, 2023 at Buffalo General Hospital with family by his side.

Jim was the oldest of three children to James and Alice Dillon in Ravenna, Ohio. His family moved to Silver Creek, New York while he was in high school. After graduation, Jim joined the United States Marine Corps and Corporal (E-3) James Gerard Dillon Jr. was Honorably Discharged two years later.

After serving his country, Jim returned to Silver Creek where he became smitten with a beautiful green-eyed girl while working for Acme Supermarkets. His children are most thankful they married October 17, 1959.

Jim remained deeply in love with his wife Barbara (Ohl) for 63 years of marriage. They did everything together, and went nowhere without holding hands. Jim enjoyed lovingly dancing to the song "Till" while serenading his wife. Thankfully he had a beautiful voice. He remained passionately committed to Barbara until he took his last breath on earth. He undoubtedly is lovingly by her side still.

Jim blessed his four children with love, caring and patience everyday of their lives. He loved his children unconditionally. Jim was also mutually blessed with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Together with his Barbara, they made a home in the truest and best sense - a safe, loving home where their children, then their grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always welcome for a meal, a card game or helping with a puzzle, a sleep over or just a conversation.

He was an active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks of the United States of America Lodge 922, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Dunkirk, New York and the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. Jim was also a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Fredonia, New York.

Professionally, Jim was a supervisor responsible for the melting of steel when he retired from Al Tech Steel after 37 years of employment. After retirement, he enjoyed making beautiful stained-glass pieces as a hobby. Jim also became relentless in his pursuit to keep deer out of his garden. The deer found his efforts amusing.

Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara; children: Cindy (John) Wilcox, James (Diane) Dillon, Michelle (Dan) Lynden, and Stephen (Trish) Dillon; Eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; his sister, Keddie Granfield; his dog, Abigail; as well as many beloved dear friends.

Jim is predeceased by his parents, James and Alice; brother, Don Dillon; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Dillon; brother-in-law, Chuck Homer; several canine companions; and several dear friends.

He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them - and if you knew him, you knew it.

Jim's greatest accomplishment was he wholeheartedly, and most successfully, lived his life being an amazing human being. A person's true wealth is the good they do in the world. Jim died a wealthy man. He will be missed.

In typical Jim's humble fashion, there are no services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance. A celebration of life will occur with details to be determined.
