John H. Walker II

John H. Walker II
John H. Walker II, 77, Supervisor of the Town of Sheridan, died unexpectedly on Saturday June 10, 2023 at home. John was born November 22, 1945, the son of the late John H. Walker and Hilma Lucas Walker. John attended Fredonia Central Schools and was a graduate of Fredonia High School. He then went on to SUNY Morrisville where he studied food processing technology.
John was a farmer, business owner, public servant and community volunteer. Above all, a “family man”. His hands on, roll up your sleeves management style proved to be successful for John in all of his life’s endeavors. As the owner of Farmer John’s Cherries and Grapes, he enjoyed mentoring the youth that worked there as it was the first job for many of them. Besides owning his farming and snowplowing business, where he plowed snow for many for over 60 years, John worked as a field representative for Refesco/Cliffstar. John returned to his role as Town of Sheridan Supervisor in 2018. He previously served as the Town of Sheridan Supervisor 8 years prior to retaking the office in 2018. Among other duties, he served as a board member on the North County Water District and the Chadwick Bay Inter-municipal Water Works. He was Past-Chairman of the Fredonia Farm Festival, Past-President of the Fredonia Little League and a member of the “Informal Fredonia Coffee Club.” John also was involved with many Economic Development organizations. He served as the past chairman of the Chautauqua County Republican Party. He loved everything outdoors, working the land, and enjoyed snowmobiling. Always busy with various projects, he also was a car enthusiast. John liked working quietly behind the scenes and helping people any way he could. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by: his wife of over 52 years, Carol Blodgett Walker; his son, John H. Walker III; a sister, Bonnie Woods; sisters-in law: Janet (Tony) Kapusccinski and Linda Blodgett; also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Besides his parents, John H. Walker and Hilma Lucas Walker, John is predeceased by sister-in-law, Alberta Tadt and brother-in-law, George Tadt. A private service was held with Rev. James LeBarr presiding. Interment was in the Webster Road Cemetery. On-line condolences can be made at larsontimkofuneralhome.com.
The Walker family extends thanks and appreciation to the first responders who came to John’s aid on the day of his passing and also to family, friends, various “work families” and colleagues for their love and support at their difficult time.
