Carmen Figueroa

She was born in Luquillo Puerto Rico on May 16, 1948, the daughter of the late Ismael Augustine and Carmen Lydia Cruz. At the age of 5, Carmen and her family relocated to New York City, N.Y. where she was raised. Carmen studied in St. Agatha’s all girls catholic school, near New York City and went on to graduate from Beauty School in Bangor Maine. Besides being a dedicated mother and homemaker, she loved the art of cosmetology which thrusted her pursuit of a career in beauty. Carmen loved dancing, cherished time with her family, and was known for her magnetic personality and contagious smile.

Carmen is survived by her four children: Edwin Figueroa, Jr, Tylah DeJesus (Figueroa) and husband Benito DeJesus,Jr, Ethan Figueroa, and Bianca Plascencia (Carrion) and husband Juan Carlos Plascencia; grandchildren: Antwanette Figueroa, Edwin Figueroa II, Carolyn Figueroa, Esabella Figueroa, Julian Dion Aponte, Elon John DeJesus, Gianni Ojan DeJesus, Shanessa Escobar, Adena Schley, Messiah Ethan Figueroa, Genesis Evelyn Figueroa, Mateo Elyon Janczylik, Sophia Rose Plascencia and 15 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Ishmael Cruz, James Cruz and Edwin Cruz.

She is predeceased by her first husband, Edwin Figueroa Sr, and her second husband, Richard Ali Carrion and siblings, Augustine Cruz, Joe Cruz, Myrna Serrano, and Kenneth Cruz.

There will be a celebration of life service held at the Point Gratiot, Dunkirk on Saturday July 22, 2023, from 3-5 pm with a dinner to follow at 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Evergreen Health Services in memory of Carmen Figueroa.
